paper and paperboard
Filippo Fantini has chosen cardboard packaging as one of his primary supports — a humble material, yet one intrinsically rich in meaning. Its rectangular, almost two-dimensional structure recalls the tradition of painting, but Fantini subverts this classic form, deconstructing it through a direct and unmediated approach that favors everyday, modest materials.
Cardboard, tape, labels, and shipping graphics contribute to an aesthetic that evokes the “Amazon era,” in which boxes — symbols of a form of consumption that permeates the spaces of daily life — accumulate in every corner of our homes and workplaces. Fantini appropriates this familiar and serial visual language to reflect on our relationship with consumption, space, and matter, transforming cardboard from a simple support into a central element of his artistic discourse.
Alongside cardboard, the artist also employs paper, corrugated board, and wood, enriching his exploration of materiality and opening up new possibilities for experimentation.
